Tennis is regarded as a young man's sport and as the 2013 French Open rolls around, there are two guys in the Men's Singles department who are ready to put their names further in the map. Grigor Dimitrov and Bernard Tomic will look to make some noise in he tournament as analysts only expect these guys to get better. Here's what they bring to the table.
Dimitrov is the youngest of the two. Currently 20 years old, Dimitrov has been a pro since 2009. He comes into the French Open after making small progress over the years at Roland Garros. In 2011, he played his first French Open and was bounced in the first round. He then came in 2012 and advanced to the second round. So what's next? A third round exit or maybe a fourth round knockout? The important thing to keep in mind is that this youngster is making noise and ranked 29th by ATP in Men's Singles.
So far in 2013, Dimitrov is 14-8. In 2012, he finished with a winning record, 8-5, in clay courts and will be looking to improve on this number at the start of the tournament.
The other young fellow, Tomic, has had a bit more success than Dimitrov in his career. The Australian, who is currently 21 years of age, is ranked 49th by Men's Singles ATP Tour. Though Dimitrov is the higher seed, Tomic has gotten a whiff of grand slam quarterfinals tennis. Back in 2011, had a guy named Novak Djokovic been in the picture, who knows what Tomic would have accomplished. He was bounced at 2011 Wimbledon by Djokovic, but the youngster had already put his name out there.
In 2012, he came back strong and started the year with a fourth round exit at the Australian Open. This year, Tomic went all the way to the third round before getting bounced. The youngster has been around since 2009 as well. He's focused and driven and you can tell he feeds off of the crowd having never been eliminated in the 1st round in the Australian Open, which is his home.
