Tim Tebow has been a free agent after clearing waivers after being released by the New York Jets and despite the fact that he can sign with any team, he has only received offers from the CFL, Arena league and Lingerie football.
Some Jacksonville Jaguars fans took things into their own hands though, as they put up a petition on the "We The People" part of the White House website, asking the president to convince Jaguars GM David Caldwell to bring Tebow in on a deal. Soon after the petition went up, the White House took it down since it violated the site's terms of service policy and now Tebow has another potential move shot down. The White House clearly made the right move, while the fans tried to convince the President that Tebow's past stats and accomplishments warranted a call to the team.
The petition listed his postseason work with the Broncos and also cited his seven game winning drives during his career as well as his stats as the best QB rating in the playoffs for the Broncos, best yards per completion and passing yards in a game for Broncos quarterbacks. Tebow was the starter in Denver before getting traded to the New York Jets and he led the team to a division title and a playoff win against the Steelers.
Last season Tebow rushed for 102 yards and passed for 39 and was barely used by the team while being put in mostly as a punt protector and a blocker. Mike Ditka he told the Chicago Sun-Times that he thinks Tebow has a place in the NFL and former Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell said the same thing. Tebow could end up on television instead and although a number of teams appear to fit, like the Bears, Jaguars, Cardinals and Browns, so far there hasn't been much movement on the matter.
The full petition read: "Jacksonville Jaguars fans want the team to sign recently released QB Tim Tebow. However, rookie general manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars David Caldwell is blocking this from happening. If the Jaguars sign & START Tebow, home games will be sold out, sales will spike, the team will win and the fans will be happy.Mr. Caldwell is ignoring lots of facts about the misunderstood Tim Tebow while in Denver: Passer rating of 125.6 is highest ever in Broncos postseason history. Most yards per completion (31.6) in NFL playoff history.100.5 QB rating is best ever for a Broncos QB in his first start.Third most passing yards in a game by a Bronco rookie QB. (308, in his 2nd start), First 15+ point comeback in the final 3 minutes of an NFL game since the merger, 7 game winning drives in just 16 games!"
