The San Antonio Spurs won their opening game against the Golden State Warriors on a last second shot. The team overcame a 16-point deficit to earn the 129-127 double overtime game on Monday. They are hoping to not leave Game 2 up to chance. The team had missed seven straight shots before Manu Ginobili sunk the game-winning 3-point shot with 1.2 seconds. It was Golden State's 30th loss in San Antonio, a streak that dates back to 1997. The Warriors will return to Texas for Game 2 in hopes of different results.
Stephen Curry recorded 44 points in the loss and hopes to just continue shooting much of the same. He had 22 points in the third quarterback alone, including 11 assists. The Spurs were able to limit Curry's production in order to go on an 18-2 run to close out regulation play. If they can play the same style of defense in Game 2, they can head back to Golden State with the series lead.
If the Warriors want to stop the Spurs they will need to watch their fouling. Klay Thompson fouled out, allowing the Spurs to get back in the game. He defended Tony Parker much of the game. After following out, Parker had 16 points in the fourth quarter and two overtimes. Thompson finished the game with 19 points and five rebounds, production Golden State will need.
The Spurs benefited from deep production from several key position players. Kawhi Leonard was a large reason Curry's production was slowed down late in the game. San Antonio played without Tim Duncan for a good portion of regulation and overtime play. Duncan left the game with three minutes left due to a stomach bug. The Spurs will hope to have him at full-strength on Wednesday.
