The Boston Red Sox are having a much better start to the season than the way 2012 ended for them. After their star left hander made quick work of the Blue Jays on Friday night, they are hoping their struggling right hander can pick up the momentum.
Clay Buchholz gets the start for Boston after coming off the worst performance of the year. He currently has seven wins in the book of the year with a 1.06 ERA, one of the best in the league. Boston was able to avoid its seventh loss in eight games after a strong performance by Jon Lester and they hope Buchholz can continue to plug along.
Lester allowed just one hit on Friday night to get the 5-0 shutout. The Blue Jays had been on three-game win streak that was snapped. Toronto knows things will only get harder with Buchholz. He is one of three six-game winning pitchers, along with Matt Moore and Jordan Zimmermann. However, Buchholz allowed four runs off seven hits on Monday, the worst of the season. But do not worry Boston fans, he still has 44 strikeouts through 36 innings.
The Blue Jays are hoping that Adam Lind can continue his success against the right-handed pitcher. He has gone 11 for 37 in his career against Buchholz, including two home runs. Fellow Toronto players like Edwin Encarnacion are just 1 for 18 against the pitcher while J.P Arencibia is hitless in 14 at-bats.
Toronto has been struggling on offense this season. In three straight losses, the team batted a mere .182. That does not bode well for their chances today.
