With the news that current Dallas Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo likely to opt out his contract to become a free agent, there have been many teams rumored to be interested in his services on their teams.
Such teams rumored to be vying for Mayo's attention are the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Of course the most interesting team would be the Lakers after the turbulent season they just had. With rumors of Chris Paul switching locker rooms at Staples Center and the uncertainty of center Dwight Howard's future, Mayo would become an extraordinary pick-up for the Lakers.
If signed Mayo would likely start in the absence of Kobe Bryant, who's readiness for Opening Night still remains questionable. His signing will give Bryant ample time to recover fully from surgery knowing that he has a suitable replacement.
Mayo could also thrive under coach Mike D'Antoni's offensive system as he shot a career high 41 percent from the three-point line last season and has the capability to create his own shot off the dribble.
Once Bryant does eventually return, Mayo can become the team's sixth man and provide instant scoring off the bench, giving them the dynamic bench that has been missing for the purple and gold for a long time.
Though he would be a good addition for the Timberwolves and Cavaliers all for the same reasons, the Los Angeles native may feel compelled to play for his hometown team if giving the opportunity to sign.
