Poker star Phil Ivey and a British casino have gotten into a large dispute dealing with millions in winnings after the casino accused Ivey of gaining an advantage while playing and now refuses to pay out the winnings.
According to Yahoo.com, the casino says that Ivey, who won £7.6 million or about $11.9 million, in a baccarat game punto banco, was able to notice a small flaw in the cards used in the game and that he used that to gain an advantage and win. The casino is refusing to pay and now he is filed a suit to get his winnings and there has been some speculation on how it all played out. The game was played last August and had Ivey and one woman playing against a dealer and after starting off at betting £50,000, he eventually went up to six figure per hand.
The game is based on luck and the casino feels that he spotted some imperfection's in the cards design and used that to win, as he would know what cards were on the table while face down. The defect may have allowed him to get the upper hand without seeing the front of the cards.
"I was given a receipt for my winnings, but Crockfords has withheld payment," Ivey said in a statement. "I have no alternative but to take legal action."
