Tim Tebow is now a free agent after dealing with a tough year from the New York Jets and despite the fact that he once led a team to the playoffs and victory, he couldn't get any other team to trade for him as the Jets shopped him and now he has the chance to sign wherever a franchise will have him, but one that says no is the Cleveland Browns.
According to NFL.com, GM Mike Lombardi was asked about Tebow and the Browns and the team said that they would like to give Brandon Weeden a shot and that Jason Campbell is a capable backup.
According to NFL.com, that may be tough, as a number of franchises have already said they are not interested, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The report lists a number of possible options for Tebow based on fits, including the New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins. It also details some of Tebow's other offers, including from the Canadian Football League, Lingerie League and Arena Football League.
Tebow had an awful year in New York because the Jets never gave him a chance to succeed and he gained just 102 yards rushing and 39 yards passing on eight attempts and he also generated headlines like the team could not generate a pass rush. The Jets said they had a plan, but clearly it was just to boost interest and jersey sales since they knew how bad things could get. Sanchez was awful and the team never gave Tebow a fair shot to take over, despite the fact that he beat them while with the Broncos the previous season. Darren Rovell reported that the Jets wasted $4.1 million on Tebow, but they may never repair the blemish on their personnel department for it.
Tebow should be able to find a job somewhere and two options that fit include the Patriots and the Seahawks, since both Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll are outside the box thinkers and could use Tebow in the way the Jets never could. His best bet is to sign with a team that has an established quarterback, somewhere like Chicago, New Orleans or even San Diego, where he could sit behind with no worries about starting and he can just learn from the player ahead of him and develop into a better starter.
The Redskins could be an option as they could use Tebow in practice, while the Seahawks could use him as an upgrade over Brady Quinn and Josh Portis. The Oakland Raiders are a dark horse despite the fact that they have Matt Flynn and drafted Tyler Wilson, while the Cleveland Browns also could fit since new head coach Rob Chudzinski used a read-option with Cam Newton in Carolina.
