The Golden State Warriors entered into the playoffs as the underdogs, no one truly new what to expect from a team that ran hot and cold throughout much of the regular season. Now, the young team is in the second round of the playoffs, tied with the veterans of San Antonio Spurs. Going into Game 5, the Warriors motto is "Don't Quit," something they have held true to all postseason.
The Western Conference semifinal is proving to be an absolute thrill with these two teams. Now the Warriors must go back to San Antonio for a crucial Game 5. The best-of-seven series is now a best-of-three series. Both teams have two wins a piece. Both teams have blown big leads late in a game and neither team has won consecutive games.
The Warriors have a reason for concern heading into Tuesday, the ankle of Stephen Curry. The shooter hurt his left ankle and has been receiving injections before each game. On Sunday, Curry recorded 22 points, going 5 for 10 from 3-point range. Rookie Harrison Barnes has also been making some noise for Golden State, hitting a career-high 26 points with 10 rebounds in Game 4.
The Spurs will be playing in their 11th Game 5 while under head coach Gregg Popovich. They are 7-3 in those series, but have not had recent success. The Spurs have been out played throughout most of the series, coming off a game they shot 40 percent. Tony Parker is still hobbling around on a bruised calf but does not believe the injury will a hindrance to his playing time on Tuesday.
Golden State won their first game in San Antonio since 1997 during Game 2 and they hope to continue that success after recording 30 straight losses. They would have to win twice in Texas in two weeks for the first time in 16 years if they want to advance to the conference finals.
