The Miami Dolphins may not have a quarterback competition going on, the fact that Ryan Tannehill must improve in the upcoming season is no secret. He was thrown right into the fire his rookie season and while he did not perform poorly, he did not generate enough wins either. The Dolphins spent most of the offseason loading up with various weapons from new tight ends to a fresh offensive line that will hopefully allow Tannehill to succeed. One of those weapons is voicing his support for the young quarterback.
Mike Wallace signed one of the larger free agent contracts in 2013. After being released from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wallace took his talents to South Beach in order to be the star of the team. After a few days of organized team activates, Wallace is impressed with what he sees so far.
"Ryan may be able to throw the ball a little farther than Ben. Obviously, Ben is more experienced in game time experience. The way it's going, it won't take long for Ryan to be one of the great quarterback. I feel like we can make a lot of big plays," Wallace said.
It is only natural that Wallace makes comparisons between the two quarterbacks. One is a very experienced Super Bowl winner while the other is relatively fresh off the college field and into the big leagues. Last season, Tannehill threw for 3,294 yards, 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He completed 58.3 percent of his passes. In comparison, Roethlisberger threw for 3,265 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He completed 63.3 percent of his passes. While Roethlisberger had the better season, he also had better talent around him, like Wallace, who is now on the Dolphins.
Wallace has full faith in the arm of Tannehill and his ability to throw a deep ball, something the receiver loves. Tannehill's past experience at the wide receiver position has allowed him to develop good chemistry with Wallace that should translate well come game time.
Along with Wallace comes tight end Dustin Keller. If Tannehill can mesh well with these offensive threats, the Dolphins should perform much better in 2013.
