The Buffalo Bills have a new GM in Doug Whaley and a new star quarterback after taking EJ Manuel with the 16th pick I the first round and now the new general manager says that the quarterback could end up starting in Week 1.
According to SI.com, Whaley said that he feels Manuel has the leadership qualities to be a starter in the league and despite having Kolb and Jackson, the team will have a competition for the starting job and Manuel may win it. The team is eager to see what they have in Manuel and coach Doug Marrone feels he has a star in the making with him.
One of the main reasons the team drafted him was due to his intelligence and leadership qualities and he definitely has the inside track to the starting job. The franchise has been looking for a starting quarterback since Jim Kelly retired and now they may have one.
"Time will tell," Whaley said, via NFL.com . "He does have the work ethic and the leadership qualities that he'll have a chance. But we believe competition brings out the best in everybody. Between him, Kevin Kolb, Tarvaris Jackson, even Jeff Tuel, we're excited to see who comes out on top of that position battle."
