The New York Mets are on a much needed two-game win streak after losing six games in a row during a rough patch in the season. They hope to make it a three-game win streak as the team faces off agains the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. It would be just the second time this season that the Mets have won three games in a row.
During their losing streak, Mets starting pitchers posted a 7.16 ERA combined. However, in the two games since, pitchers have limited their opponents to just four runs in 14 innings. Jeremy Hefner hopes to continue the good fortune. He is winless on the season with a 4.16 ERA. In each of his seven starts this season, the Mets have lost. He has given up 10 runs over 27 innings. Four of those runs have come in the first innings. If Hefner can hold off teams early in the game, he might have a better chance at helping continue the win streak.
Scott Feldman will take he field for the Cubs. He is 3-3 on the season with a 2.53 ERA. The Cubs have won each of Feldman's last four starts. The team is struggling defensively, posting 33 errors so far this season with seven multi-error games. Starlin Castro is on a hit streak, getting a hit in his last 14 of 16 games. He has a career average of .344 against the Mets.
Feldman's last start against the Mets came in 2008 when he was playing for the Texas Rangers. He gave up seven runs and eight hits over five innings. He has little experience against current Mets' hitters.
