La Liga Results: Barcelona Trump Real Valladolid as Title Celebrations Begin with Trophy Presentation

Barcelona moved ever closer to matching Real Madrid's point record of 100 with a 2-1 win over Real Valladolid in La Liga, as the new champions were handed the Spanish League trophy at the Camp Nou.

Barca had already sealed the title last weekend, and this game was more about trying to emulate Real Madrid's point record set by their rivals last year.

Pedro opened the scoring for Barca, before Marc Valiente put the ball into his own net to give the Spanish giants a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In a match, which had absolutely no meaning for mid-table Valladolid, Barcelona just went through their motions in the second 45 before Valladolid made it 2-1 in the final minutes through a penalty from Victor Perez.

The win leaves Barcelona on 94 points from 36 games with two games remaining in the season. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have already sealed second and third place respectively.

"The league title is what you hope to win from the start of the season," Javier Mascherano said. "We ended up winning it, but our season could have been better, I'm sure, but I think we should be satisfied with what we've won.

"The team has been very consistent, we've won a lot of points and that allowed us to win the league.

"League titles need to be celebrated, you never know when you're going to win one again. We need to celebrate and enjoy each title, now we need to close out the last two games of the season in the best way possible.

"We're two victories away from reaching the record, and the best way to end the season is by winning our next two games. However, we can't obsess about the record, the objective was to win the league and that's what we've done."

Lionel Messi did not take part in the game, but Victor Valdes, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, made his 500th appearance for Barcelona, becoming only the fourth player to reach the mark, behind Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol and Migueli.

"We've had to overcome many difficulties, we're very pleased with the work everyone put in," Barcelona assistant manager Jordi Roura said.

"We were coming off of a very long week, but we were able to work well and recover. We had a lot of players to choose from and we wanted to send out the most competitive team.

"We didn't do it because we want to equal the 100 point record. If we can do it, it'll be a good memory, the record excites us."

Results: Deportivo 2-0 Espanyol; Real Zaragoza 1-2 Athletic Bilbao; Levante 2-3 Rayo Vallecano; Barcelona 2-1 Real Valladolid; Granada 3-0 Osasuna; Sevilla 1-2 Real Sociedad; Getafe 0-1 Valencia.
