Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer for many people and it will also be one of the biggest sports weekends in recent memory, with a number of events going on during the three day weekend, including the Indianapolis 500, one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
The weekend will have a number of important series and matchups around the major American sports, including the NBA and NHL playoffs. Basketball will have both the Eastern and Western conference finals going on with the Miami Heat taking on the Indiana Pacers, while the Memphis Grizzlies take on the San Antonio Spurs out west. The NHL has a number of series going in the second round, with the New York Rangers taking on the Boston Bruins and the Red Wings playing the Blackhawks. The other series include the San Jose Sharks and LA Kings, while the Pittsburgh Penguins are also playing the Ottawa Senators. Monday games are also scheduled but only if necessary.
The MLB has a number of good series going on over the weekend, including the Baltimore Orioles and Blue Jays, the Rockies and Giants out West, Pirates and Brewers, Angels and Royals, Cubs and Reds, Indians and Red Sox, Cards and Dodgers, Yankees and Rays, Phillies and Nationals as well as the Twins and Tigers and the Angels and Royals. The MLB season is heating up and teams will be looking to get things in order come summertime.
There will also be another big racing event apart from the Indy 500 with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Charlotte, while the Indianapolis 500 gears up to go on the same day as the Pacers on Sunday for the first time in years.
There are also some exciting matched in the soccer world, including Major League Soccer and the UEFA Champions League, with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich going at it for the title, while in the MLS games with the DC United, FC Dallas, Chicago, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC will be going on among others.
