Maurice Jones-Drew Battery Arrest Leads To No Charges As Police Say Jacksonville Jaguars Running Back Is Cooperating With Investigation

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has not been charged with misdemeanor battery, as police in St. Augustine, Fla. Changed what they previously said on Monday, stating that the star has been cooperating with the investigation of an incident at an area restaurant.

According to ESPN.com, police wrongly released that information in a news release and amended it to say that he was not charged in the incident. The police said that Jones-Drew maintains his innocence and is cooperating with the investigation. Jones-Drew's agent, Adisa Bakari, said the police would amend the statement and they did that the next day.

The report says that Jones-Drew struck a security guard "on the left side of his head, knocking him out" at a restaurant. The report also says that a fried of Jones was told to stop touching a woman before putting his hands on a security guard and after that Jones hit the guard with his fist, according to the police report, a copy of which also was obtained by NFL.com.

The Jaguars said in a statement they were "aware of the situation regarding Maurice Jones-Drew and are in the process of gathering more information. Due to this being a legal matter, we'll have no further comment at this time."

Jones dealt with injuries last season after being the leading rusher in 2011 with 1,606 yards.

"Maurice was there and was not involved. As soon as an altercation broke out, Maurice exited the premises. He was not questioned by police immediately after, nor later that day," Bakari said Tuesday.
