The Oakland Athletics are on a hot streak. The team has won six-straight games and is aiming to complete a four-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants in the Bay Area. The Giants are undefeated at home, so if the Athletics want to come out on top, they will have to get past ace Barry Zito.
Oakland's history against the Giants is not in their favor. The team has dropped 10 of 15 games to San Francisco, but after winning the first two games in the series, they have the momentum. The Athletics had lost 11 in a row in the Bay Area and are now on a two-game win streak.
While the Athletics are on a hot streak, the Giants have lost 10 of 15 and sit 28-25 on the season, one year after winning the World Series. They are undefeated at home and with Zito on the mound, they are in good shape. The former Cy Young winner has won his last two starts against the Athletics with a 4.14 ERA on the year. Zito started strong at home, giving up just two runs in 33 innings in his first five starts. However, in his last start he allowed four runs in six innings.
Oakland will rely on A.J. Griffin who is 2-0 in his last three starts. He is 5-3 on the season with a 3.84 ERA. He had a rough last outing, giving up four runs with three being solo home runs. Oakland still managed to pull out the win. Griffin's lone start against the Giants was last season where he gave up a two-run home run to Buster Posey, allowing three hits in total to the team.
