The Green Bay Packers are two seasons removed from winning the Super Bowl and after losing in the playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers last season, the team and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are ready to get back to the championship game in 2013 and one of the biggest improvements next season will be on the offensive line.
Last year the team dealt with poor play and a number of injuries on the line, but for 2013 the Packers are ready to deal with some chances that should boost production, as they are moving Bryan Bulaga to left tackle and putting Josh Sitton at left guard. According to Pro Football Talk, the shift of the players from the same positions on the right side to the left will help the team in pass protection and it also should give Aaron Rodgers more time to throw. The move could also help in run blocking schemes and with new running back Eddie Lacy in the fold, the Pacers are expected to improve up front a great deal.
Bulaga has experience playing on the left side from his years at Iowa and after moving to the right side for Mark Tauscher when he was a rookie, he now will move back to the left side, which the star said he is "excited" about. He said that the team asked him about it earlier in the offseason and he was ready for it tight away and Bulaga now has the chance to greatly improve the play of the offense from the inside. Bulaga will get work at the premier offensive line position as his contract end approaches in 2014 and the move should only be beneficial to him in the future as he tries to cash in on a longer deal.
The Packers are usually one of the highest scoring offensive teams due to the play of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and while the team ranked ninth in passing yards per game with over 250, but one place they need to improve is in the running game. The rushing attack ranked 20th in yards per game last season and with the offensive line shifting and the addition of rookie back Eddie Lacy from Alabama, the Packers offense should be much more balanced for the first time in a few years. The team will have a tough schedule in 2013 after getting their bye in Week 4 and they will start the year on the road against the team that beat them in the playoffs with the 49ers and their first three games will be against playoff team as they play the Redskins and the Bengals the next two weeks after the opener.
