The Cleveland Browns have a number of questions heading into summer mini camp workouts and after bringing in new head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner, the team is ready to improve on both sides of the ball and rookie Barkevious Mingo likely will have a part in that.
Mingo was taken sixth overall in the draft by the Browns out of LSU and while he is expected to be a factpr on the line this season, so far he is behind free agent signings Paul Kruger and Jabaal Sheard according to the toaching staff. Pro Football Talk reports that the linebacker coach said that Mingo is currently behind the two on the depth chart and that he likes what he has seen from the rookie. As long as he competes he will have a chance to start and coach Brian Baker said the best players would start outside.
Mingo is learning a new defense and his role in it and he brings some great experience from college, where he had over 20 tackles for loss over the past two seasons as the best rusher for LSU. Trent Richardson has been dealing with a leg injury and while some have said that the second year running back seems injury prone, Richardson himself said it would not be an issue and that he would be ready for training camp.
According to ESPN.com, Richardson said he expects to be ready for training camp and said to reporters at minicamp this week that the injury was not a big issue and that the only reason he is sitting out now is to be cautious. Training camp starts at the end of July and Richardson is entering the summer season after missing out on the final part of OTAs. Richardson had a solid rookie season and ranked fifth in the NFL in touchdowns and Chudzinski said that the injury was not an issue the team was worrying about. The team is expecting to improver under the new staff and with quarterback Brandon Weeden, who had an up and down rookie season in 2012.
