Cleveland Indians close Chris Perez goes to the beat of his own drum and at times that can be a detriment to him on the field and now it is off the field, as he and his wife were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession.
According to ESPN.com, Perez and his wife Melanie were charged after a search warrant was served on Tuesday. The couple previously was served complaints on Thursday and were released and police examined a package delivered that had marijuana weighing 163.9 grams. Perez told police that the weed was his and was for personal use and now he will be arraigned on misdemeanor charge on June 19th.
The Indiana has yet to issue a statement and the police said that the reports of an investigation came from a suspicious package that was delivered to the home. Indians GM Chris Antonetti said earlier in the week: "We have talked with Chris and are currently in the process of gathering additional information."
Perez is currently on the DL and although he has 75 saves over the past two seasons, he has blown eight and has had a so-so season. The team is in a funk after losing four in a row and 12 of 16 and this is a distraction they do not need.
