Manchester United Transfer News: Cabaye Wants United Move as Red Devils Complete First Summer Signing

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has given a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United, while the English Premier League champions confirmed the signing of Uruguayan youngster Guillermo Varela.

Cabaye has been the standout player for Newcastle over the last couple of seasons, and always looks a step or two above the rest of the Magpies squad.

With Paul Scholes announcing his retirement, Cabaye can be seen as an ideal replacement and the French international clearly indicated he would love a move to United.

"Yes of course. I've liked this club for a long time, I like what they do," the 27-year-old told Canal+. "The boss (Sir Alex Ferguson) has left but they have appointed a very good successor and he (David Moyes) did some good things with Everton.

"They are always well played among the big clubs. Yes for sure, it would be an interesting challenge."

Cabaye said he is unaware of any interest from a specific club, with big-spenders Paris Saint Germain and Monaco also reportedly showing an interest in bringing the playmaker back to Ligue 1.

"I have no direct contact with anyone, maybe my agents are currently in the know," he added.

"As for me, I am here listening. I like England as well. I will need to look at the situation but you never know."

Meanwhile, United confirmed their first summer signing after agreeing a deal with Uruguayan side Club Atletico Penarol for 20-year-old defender Varela.

Varela had intimated earlier this week he was on his way to Manchester to complete a medical and officially put pen to paper on a deal and everything seems to have gone according to plan after United agreed on a fee believed to be worth an initial £1 million ($1.5 million), with further add-ons based on appearances and success.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement to sign 20-year-old defender Guillermo Varela from Uruguayan club Club Atletico Penarol for an undisclosed fee," the club said in a statement on their official website.

"Guillermo will immediately join up with the Uruguay Under-20 squad for the upcoming FIFA Under 20 World Championships in Turkey."
