Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners Close In On Gonzalo Higuain From Real Madrid

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has held further talks with Gonzalo Higuain and his representatives in a bid to tempt the Real Madrid striker to move to the Emirates in the summer.

Higuain, who is available for around £20 million ($31 million), is one among many top names linked with Arsenal in the offseason, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Stevan Jovetic and David Villa also on the club's radar.

However, Higuain is the most ideal candidate among them, with the striker's ability to not just score goals but also bring the other forward players into play perfect for a club like Arsenal.

The 25-year-old last month admitted he would be seeking a move away from Real, and Juventus were thought to be the frontrunners for the Argentine international's signature.

However, there has not been too much progress on that end with Higuain still to make a decision on his future.

Wenger reportedly met Higuain's father Jorge, who is also his son's representative, in Paris to talk about a move, according to the Daily Mirror.

"He wants to go to a team in Europe where he is a main player and is shown affection," Jorge was quoted as saying by the Spanish press.

"Madrid will want to sell. Juventus or Arsenal? I guess he has spoken with them.

"The clubs first have to talk to Madrid and in direct negotiation. Higuain currently has three years left on his contract."

If Arsenal can complete a move for Higuain, it will give the squad a tremendous boost and add that player who is likely to score 25-30 goals a season.

Rooney will definitely add more commercial vale for Arsenal, but Higuain somehow seems a more perfect fit at the Emirates.

At 25, Higuain is the perfect age for an Arsenal player and Wenger, if he means business in the transfer market this season, really must make a statement and go all out for the striker.

Higuain earns around £130,000 a week ($202,250) at Real, so Arsenal should not have too many problems in matching the salary, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis claiming the club could easily afford a player's wages of above £200,000 a week ($310,000).
