The Pittsburgh Steelers have received some encouraging news from quarterback Ben Roethlisberg, as he plans to be ready to begin training camp on July 26.
Roethlisberger had what he described as cleanup surgery on his knee last Wednesday and said he could play a game on Sunday if there was one.
"It feels great," Roethlisberger said. "I saw Doc(James) Bradley this morning. He was pleasantly surprised with the range of motion and where we're at with the swelling. It feels great. I've been off crutches for a couple days now and moving around pretty good. I think I could play Sunday if I had to.
"According to Doc, the surgery went really well, my knee is in great shape. They took care of the little problem. It had been bothering me a little bit last year and we just decided now is the time to take care of it."
Roethlisberger isn't the only quarterback coming off a knee injury, as Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III said Tuesday he plans to begin making cuts on his surgically repaired knee next week as part of his rehabilitation program.
"You saw today the explosive sprinting part," Griffin said following the team's minicamp practice at Redskins Park. "I feel comfortable sprinting now. The next big stage is just cutting. And it's not that I go cut for two days and I'm ready to go. It's just a month of just doing cutting drills, change of direction. That way I can train my body to get back for that.
"So I'll start that next week. I'll start cutting next week. And then after that it's just everything over and over. I continue to work out in the weight room over the next four or five weeks. I continue to keep sprinting and just get more and more comfortable. And then whatever I feel like I have a deficiency at, I make sure I fix that. There's exercises you can do to help with that."
Training camp for the Redskins is set to commence on July 25 in Richmond, Va.
