New York Jets Rumors: Santonio Holmes Anxious for Darrelle Revis Matchup, Not Committed to Playing Week 1 Against Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Santonio Holmes has no idea when he will be back on the field. The New York Jets wide receiver continues to sit out of practice after suffering a foot injury last season. While he is remaining mum on when exactly he will be ready to play, he is talking like he will on the field Week 1 of the 2013 season. The Jets will face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, marking the first matchup with the former cornerback, Darrelle Revis. Holmes is excited to see his old teammate.

"It would be a great matchup, it would be a lot of fun to go out there against an old nemesis. A guy who's coming off an injury himself, I wish him much success this season, and hopefully he's prepared and ready just like I will be," Holmes said.

It is still unknown if Holmes will be on the field for the game against Tampa Bay or not. Both he and head coach Rex Ryan have remained optimistic. Ryan commented that Holmes was moving well in his recovery, but is uncertain how long it will be until the receiver resumes football activities. With the type of injury Holmes suffered, he is essentially learning how to walk again.

"It's been that hard to just get the feeling of your body to move in an everyday motion for so many years. To have something like this happen, it kind of puts a damper in your whole physical ability to do anything," Holmes said.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez is certainly hoping Holmes is ready to go sooner rather than later. The quarterback is currently throwing to group of wide receivers that he does not even know by name. Sanchez joked that they all just have nicknames right now because he does not know their actual names. Holmes is one of the only big playmakers the Jets retained for 2013 and is expected to carry the load of the passing game.

While Holmes is excited for the Revis matchup, it is still unknown if Revis will even be on the field. The cornerback is currently rehabbing a repaired ACL suffered during the 2012 season. Revis is reportedly going to be ready by training camp and would not miss a chance to go up against his former team the first week of the season.
