Over the weekend ex-NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens paid Chad Johnson a visit, while he's currently incarcerated in the Broward County, Fla., jail.
Owens, who saw Johnson on Saturday, says his former Cincinnati Bengals teammate was in "good spirits," although seeing Johnson locked up was a "humbling experience."
Owens shared details of his visit with Johnson through his Twitter account Saturday.
"Just visited the homie @ochocinco. He's in good spirits, he needs a haircut already tho. Lol. He sends his best regards to everyone," Owens wrote, adding it was the first time he had visited anyone in prison.
"I really didn't know what to expect but to see the homie locked up is a very humbling experience, to talk to him via vid conference let me know that's not where anyone wants to be. I know he's only in the county jail but to someone that has never been locked up...Jail is Jail!"
Johnson had reached an agreement with prosecutors for community service and counseling to resolve his probation violation from his no-contest plea last year for a battery charge against his then-wife, Evelyn Lozada, but was rejected by Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh last week after Johnson gave his attorney a pat on the backside.
Johnson's attorney, Adam Swickle, pleaded to McHugh to reconsider the sentencing, saying the backside pat was merely Johnson's way of showing appreciation for his attorney's work on the case.
On Monday morning Judge McHugh accepted Johnson's apology and cut his 30-day jail term to the seven days he has already served.
Johnson said in court that he'd had plenty of time to think about why his attitude was wrong-especially in a domestic violence case.
"I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting the court last time," said Johnson, wearing a tan jail jumpsuit with his hands shackled at the waist. "I apologize. I did have time to reflect on the mistakes I made in this courtroom."
