Arsenal Transfer News: Lukas Podolski Would Love Robert Lewandowski to Join the Gunners

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski had admitted Roberto Lewandowski would be a "perfect fit" at the Emirates, if the Borussia Dortmund striker chooses to move to the English Premier League in the summer.

Lewandowski only has a year remaining on his current contract with Dortmund, and has been tipped to join Bayern Munich.

However, Dortmund confirmed they would not sell Lewandowski to Bayern at any cost, while also insisting the striker was set to stay at the club next season.

Manchester United have been the Premier League club most heavily linked with Lewandowski, with Sir Alex Ferguson thought to be a huge admirer.

It remains to be seen whether new manager David Moyes will make a move for Lewandowski, but according to Podolski, who was born in Poland, the Polish international will be ideal for Arsenal, who are looking to bring in a high-profile striker.

"First of all, it should be him that decides, not journalists or managers," Podolski said in an interview to polskatimes.pl, when asked about Lewandowski's future.

"This is a guy who scored 24 goals in the league this season. He could handle it anywhere. He would fit perfectly at Arsenal."

Arsenal are thought to be closing in on Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, and with Dortmund reportedly refusing to sell their star player, it looks unlikely that Arsene Wenger will be able to make a move for Lewandowski, who so famously scored four goals against Real in the Champions League semifinals last season.

Podolski had a bit of an iffy first season with Arsenal, making an impact in some games, while failing to impress in others.

The German international believes he will improve his performances next season and also expects Arsenal's results to get better along with it.

"Not all games have been successful, even in the last round against Newcastle we fought for the win to secure a good future and to keep us to a certain level," he added.

"Arsenal are now in the Champions League for 15 years in a row.

"I think next season will be much better.

"It was a big jump for me. Previously, for three years I played with FC Koln to survive in the Bundesliga and it's a little different level."

Podolski also said he is quite enjoying life in London. "I quite enjoy it," he said. "London is a renovated city and the English League is also great.

"There is no downtime. All the time quick action, the pace and the fans who sit near the end line in the middle."
