NBA News And Rumors: Clippers Agree To Terms With The Celtics For Rights To Doc Rivers, What Does This Mean For Paul Pierce And Kevin Garnett?

After days of failed negotiations, the Los Angeles Clippers have finally come to an agreement with the Boston Celtics for rights to coach Doc Rivers, pending league approval.

Sources confirmed on Sunday that the Clippers will sign Rivers to a three-year, $21 million contract. In exchange they'll send a 2015 first-round pick as compensation to the Celtics. The consensus now around the league is that Rivers signing will clinch Chris Paul's signature on a new five-year max contract.

With Rivers' departure from the Celtics almost a guarantee, questions now arise about what lie ahead for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce with the Celtics.

Latest rumors around the league is that the Cleveland Cavaliers have spoken to the Celtics about Pierce, and are supposedly offering their two second-round picks for the 35-year-old All-Star. Pierce's $15.3 million contract for next year would become guaranteed if he's dealt.

That move would save the Celtics more than $10 million off of next year's salary cap, moving the team comfortably beneath the luxury tax line.

Garnett's situation is much more complicated. Originally included in what was technically termed a separate deal with the Clippers for center DeAndre Jordan, Garnett was supposed to have followed Rivers to Los Angeles.
