Jeremy Lin interacted with fans for close to an hour after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus, including revealing that Blastoise was his favorite Pokeman.
Lin underwent surgery, which could keep him out for the rest of the Knicks' season, but decided to go ahead with a fan question-and-answer segment on Facebook just hours later. The Wall Street Journal reports that the chat was heavily dominated by young, Asian fans, but that the chat still revealed a lot of interesting facts about Lin.
On Harry Potter: "I read the first four Harry Potter books. Then they kept getting longer and longer, so I couldn't do it anymore, LOL."
On being turnover prone: "Well, I can tell you I will definitely have zero turnovers for the next six weeks. So I guess that's an improvement, right?"
On the dogs versus cats debate: "Dogs all the way. When i was young, I saw a cat run into my backyard and rip my favorite Nerf ball in half, but I was too young/scared to chase the cat away."
On his dating life: "No, I dont have a girlfriend right now. To all the prom questions, I'm sorry I can't go to any proms! I will still be rehabbing, practicing and at Knicks games, LOL."
On staying humble: "I struggle with pride every day, but the one thing that I try to remind myself is that I'm still a sinner, no matter how many points/assists/wins I get on the court. God's grace and the death/resurrection of his son Jesus Christ has given me salvation, even though I'm not worthy of it."
Lin eventually had to end the chat because he "threw up in the middle of the Q&A," but still did more than enough to delight his fans. It was a great window into his personality, which may or may not have been altered due to prescription pain killers after his surgery.
