New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been connected with a murder investigation and with that, his past has been more scrutinized than ever, including his time with the Florida Gators while playing in college.
According to Pro Football Talk, Florida Athletics Director Jeremy Foley said that information that has come about the tight end's past at the school is wrong. Reports have come out that NFL teams did not like what they were seeing from the past history of the tight end leading into the draft and some of that comes from his time at Florida. Foley said that the information is not true and that reports of him failing drug tests were also misreported.
The report says that some teams had concerns about a shooting he may have been involved in, failed drug tests as well as the possibility of him having gang ties. Now all that has come into focus even more with the investigation, which could end with his arrest. So far the authorities have been careful about setting out a warrant and they have been collecting evidence while also searching his home.
Reports were conflicting about a potential arrest and the police have said through sources that they are being very careful due to the high profile nature of the case. Hernandez is facing possible charges for destroying his cell phone and home security system and that could be for obstruction of justice. Hernandez missed on game during his time playing for the Gators and the reports about failing six drug tests were called false by the Gators.
Florida Athletics Director Jeremy Foley told al.com, "The information from the NFL sources is wrong." Steve McClain, senior associate athletics director, texted al.com: "I would go on record saying he didn't fail six drug tests (at Florida)." That raises an obvious follow-up question: If he didn't fail six drug tests, how many drug tests did he fail? That question remains unanswered by Florida officials.
