Aaron Hernandez is facing murder charges after being arrested and arraigned in court on Wednesday for the murder of Odin Lloyd and after confusion about an arrest warrant, he could be facing life in prison for the crime.
According to ESPN.com, Hernandez was arrested before 9 AM on Wednesday and arraigned in court where he was charged with first degree murder and five other gun charges. The state showed and argued that Hernandez had contact with the victim the night of the murder and had a motive to kill him and they also claimed video evidence showing the tight end with a gun.
Lloyd was a 27-year-old semi-pro football player that associated with Hernandez and his body was found over a week ago in an industrial park a mile away from the TEs home. Lloyd was found shot multiple times and the state argued that Hernandez was one of the men to pull the trigger, as they lined shell casings and blue bubble gum to him on the night of the murder.
The case has triggered attention into the tight end's past and now he is a former NFL player, as the Patriots decided to release him despite having given him a five-year, $40 million contract. The team felt it was best to part ways and now the tight end could be facing life in prison if he is convicted and a trial date could be set for early next year. Hernandez's fiancé and Lloyd are connected through her sister, as the victim was dating her when he was killed.
Hernandez was considered one of the top young players for the Patriots and now his past has been scrutinized, including his time at Florida with the Gators. His past now looks suspect and he had numerous illegal guns in the home he shared with his fiancé and baby.
