Ian Kennedy is officially back on the market after serving a 10-game suspension for hitting Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke on June 11. He will be looking to have a less dramatic return to the mound against the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander attempted to appeal the suspension, but decided to drop it, determining it would just become a distraction for the team.
Kennedy is currently 3-4 on the season with a 5.21 ERA. He has found mild success against the Braves, posting a 2.84 ERA in four career starts against the team. He got the 5-3 win against the team back in mid-May after yielding just three runs and striking out seven in five innings.
The Braves will send Tim Hudson to the mound. The 15-year veteran is in deep need of win on Saturday after being stuck in an eight week drought. Hudson is 4-7 with a 4.10 ERA on the season, but has a 1.83 ERA in his last five starts. However, he is still in a nine-start winless streak. His 1.66 run-support average certainly is not helping his cause.
He received zero run support for the third time in four starts against the Milwaukee Brewers a week ago. He only gave up two runs over six innings as the Braves were shut out. He has success against Arizona. He is 7-0 with a 1.33 ERA in his last nine starts against the team.
Atlanta won for the third time in the last four games on Friday night in a 3-0 victory against Arizona. It was the first time the Diamondbacks were shut out since Sept. 26
