Urban Meyer On Aaron Hernandez Murder: Former Florida Gators Coach Quiet As Ohio State Head Criticized For Arrested Players At UF, TE Had Marijuana and Girlfriend Issues

As the Aaron Hernandez murder cases widens and more information comes out, many have looked back into the past of the tight end, including his time at the University of Florida with head coach Urban Meyer, where the star reportedly had drug and fighting issues.

According to Pro Football Talk, Meyer, who is now head coach at Ohio State, did not have much to say about Hernandez, being quoted as saying he would not be talking about it when asked by Ben Axelrod of BuckeyeGrove.com. Hernandez has been criticized in the past and even more so now for the culture at Florida during his time there, as a number of players dealt with issues and were involved in trouble, but of course not quarterback Tim Tebow.

Tebow and Meyer tried to intervene to help Hernandez with religious and Bible study and other actions, but clearly it did not help much. Hernandez won awards while playing with the Gators and despite all that, he still got into trouble with drugs. The tight end was suspended for failing a drug test and he also was questioned about a shooting while in school. Another issues for Hernandez was fighting, as he got into an altercation with a bouncer the first year he was at the school.

Hernandez is now in jail for the murder of Odin Lloyd and it was something that neither Meyer nor the Patriots saw coming despite the past signs of crime. The body was found a mile from Hernandez's home and now he is facing life in prison for it and he also could be implicated in a another double murder that police have linked to him from last July.

Hernandez was one of the top young players in the league and recently signed a five year contract worth $40 million, but it is likely that his career in the NFL and possibly outside jail is over.

"I'm not going to talk about that," Meyer said.
