New England Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow is known for his religious beliefs and friendly nature and the star was the same way while attending the University of Florida, as he tried to make peace for Aaron Hernandez the night he got into a fight with a staffer at The Swamp bar in Gainesville.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Tebow was present with the then-17-year-old Hernandez the night of the fight and tried to help him get out of the situation. The report says that Tebow was there the night Hernandez punched a bouncer, causing a broken ear drum in April, as he tried to help calm the situation down. The situation came up after Hernandez had two drinks and didn't pay and Tebow said to police later that he saw the dispute and tried to intervene to keep things calm. Tebow said that he told Hernandez to leave and tried to make arrangements to pay for the drinks.

The report says Hernandez punched Michael Taphorn in the head and was yelling at him and later he found that his ear drum busted and he needed medical attention. Hernandez was not found right after the incident, leaving Tebow to talk to the authorities. Hernandez was later found and interviewed while Tebow was there and the report said that he was polite and professional and Hernandez said that coach Urban Meyer was notified about the altercation.

Later charges were not pursued for Hernandez and while Gainesville police said he should be charged with a felony, it went away. Tebow and Hernandez were close during the start of his Gators career and he was one reason why he ended up choosing the school in the first place. Tebow tried to be a good influence on Hernandez while at school, but he could only do so much for the tight end.

Hernandez now is facing life in prison after the two became teammates again with the Patriots after Tebow signed and he may be implicated in other crimes, including a double murder from last July in Boston. Hernandez was one of the top tight ends in football and now his career is likely over as he faces first degree murder charges for Lloyd.

"Tebow stated that he witnessed the dispute," the officer wrote. "... Tebow stated that he went over to try to help resolve the conflict."
