As the league sits and awaits the decision of All-Star Dwight Howard, NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon believes Howard will ultimately end up with the Houston Rockets, according to ThePostGame.com.
"It's an 85 percent chance he ends up in Houston," Olajuwon told ThePostGame on Wednesday. "You never know, but after that meeting we had, I feel very comfortable that we have the best chance to get him."
Olajuwon, who won two NBA titles with the Rockets, said he got the sense Howard liked what the Rockets were pitching to him.
"We're going to come to you," Olajuwon said. "You have James Harden there. You have the backcourt. You're going to get the ball. The coach is there knowing we need your presence in the middle. So we were speaking his language. It's what he wanted. So he was so excited."
Though the Rockets are considered the frontrunners in the Howard sweepstakes, there's still a chance with his indecisive nature that he could sign elsewhere.
"If you truly want to win a championship, this is the right team," Olajuwon said. "And I think he feels the sincerity that this is a true opportunity to make something special."
According to sources who've analyzed the situation, the Rockets hold a 60% chance of signing Howard, compared to the Lakers 40%, thus making them the frontrunners to make a deal.
"The Rockets were built to run up and down and are now going to have to play through Dwight, which they promised him they would do," says a source. "If Omer Asik doesn't work as a four, they'll have to move him, which they can do."
The Rockets now also have the ability to offer a four-year $88 million max contract deal after shedding the contract of Thomas Robinson in a trade with the Portland Trailblazers over the weekend.
Houston also waived the contracts of veterans Aaron Brooks and Carlos Delfino earlier on Sunday to clear more space in their salary-cap.
