Manchester City Transfer News: Manuel Pellegrini Admits Search for a New Striker; Reveals Reason Behind Letting Carlos Tevez Leave for Juventus

Manuel Pellegrini admitted Manchester City are in the transfer market for a new striker this summer, while revealing the reason behind letting Carlos Tevez go to Juventus.

City, who have already made two summer signings in Fernandinho and Jesus Navas, currently only have Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero in their squad and Pellegrini, speaking at his first press conference as City manager, admitted he will look to bring in one more forward, with Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo reportedly closing in on a move to the Etihad.

"Both Fernandinho and Navas were my choice of players. I talked a lot with (director of football) Txiki (Begiristain) about them and they are here because I asked," Pellegrini said.

"It is true that we also need a striker. We have two strikers and we need another one, but I don't want to talk about any names.

"I think we need two players in each position so that we can compete in all competitions. We will try to bring to Manchester City the best players from all parts of the world."

Pellegrini revealed he had spoken to Tevez and decided to let the Argentine international leave the club after realizing the striker was reluctant to stay at City.

"I spoke with Carlos and I feel that he did not want to stay here anymore, he was very clear to me," he said. "I think it was the best choice both for Carlos and the club.

"In the next week we will see all the different situations with various players. I will speak with Txiki and I am always speaking with the players to see what they want."

Pellegrini promised a new brand of attacking football at the club while also saying he was confident of topping Manchester United in their English Premier League encounters next season.

"The fans will see a different way to how the team has played in other years," Pellegrini added.

"I am sure we are going to play an attractive game. We will always try to play in the opponent's half and try to be an attractive team like all the other sides I have worked with. That is what I want to try and do with City.

"I know the most important thing for City fans is to beat United. I'm sure we will do it and this year, the same as other years, we will be on top of United.

"I also played United twice with Villarreal in the Champions League, in 2006 and 2009, and both times we qualified for the last 16 and they didn't."
