Liverpool will play their first preseason game against Preston North End Saturday with manager Brendan Rodgers set to give the four new summer signings a chance to show their skills.
The Reds' preseason camp is now in full flow and Rodgers will be keen to see his players gain some match fitness as Liverpool look to head out for the preseason tour to Asia and Australia from next week.
"I've been really pleased with how they returned from their breaks," fitness and conditioning coach Ryland Morgans said. "They all went away with an off-season plan and it's pleasing to see they stuck to that. In terms of their return condition, it's really good.
"If players just take a complete rest for six weeks, generally their bodies will adapt to any stimulus - whether that's an increased stimulus or a decreased stimulus.
"That will adapt within a two-week period, so in six weeks they've got three times that, so if they did nothing during that time it would take us over eight weeks to get them to the level we require.
"It's a significant period, but they've stuck to their off-season programmes and maintained certain components of fitness.
Rodgers confirmed he will give Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure a chance when they take on the League One club.
The Liverpool manager will also have another aspect to keep an eye on and that is who to make the club's new vice-captain with the position opening up following the retirement of Jamie Carragher last season.
I haven't made it (the decision) yet, there are a few people that I'm looking at," Rodgers told the club's official website.
"The captain and vice-captain is a very important position here at the football club, on and off the field.
"We've got a number of players that I'm looking at and assessing before I'll make that decision at the end of preseason."
