The Atlanta Braves have been hit by the injury bug as the All-Star break approaches. Jason Heyward, Justin Upton and B.J. Upton have all left recent games with problems, leaving the Braves anxious for a few days off. After suffering a loss last night, Saturday will not be any easier as the Cincinnati Reds send Homer Bailey to the mound.
Bailey followed up his no-hitter performance by giving up an season-high 10 hits to the Milwaukee Bucks. He walked three, struck out three and hit a batter. He struggled in his lone performance against the Braves back in May, giving up four runs on five hits in the loss.
Bailey has success against several Atlanta hitters which could help him get back on track. Dan Uggla is 3 for 15 against the right-hander. Freddie Freeman is 2 for 8 while Brian McCann is 1 for 7 against the pitcher.
The Braves plagues outfield will cause backup Tyler Pastornicky to start. Along with both Upton brothers and Heyward being hurt, Jordan Schafer and Evan Gattis are alos struggling with health issues lately.
The injuries are the last thing pitcher Mike Minor wants. The starter has suffered from a lack of run support lately, getting just 13 runs in his last five starts. Minor's last win was June 9 as he has recorded a 5.63 ERA in his last four starts. He held Cincinnati to just one run back in May. The Reds lineup has improved since that performance, putting Minor at risk for another loss.
