Philadephia Eagles Rumors: DeSean Jackson Predicts Michael Vick Over Nick Foles at Quarterback, Chip Kelly Likes Veteran in Read-Option Offense as Training Camp Approaches

DeSean Jackson is waiting just like everyone else to see who will emerge as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. During offseason workouts, Jackson stated he felt the competition between Michael Vick and Nick Foles was relatively even. Both players had been given equal time with the first-team offense and the competition was too tough to predict. However as training camp approaches, Jackson thinks Vick has the upper hand.

While speaking with ESPN's First Take, Jackson said he expects Vick to be named the starting quarterback for the Eagles over Foles or rookie Matt Barkley.

"In my opinion, honestly, I don't want to be put on the spot, but Michael Vick's got a lot of confidence in himself. He's been there going on 12 years in the NFL, and I think he'll get the job," Jackson said.

The wide receiver notes the Foles is an incredible talent at quarterback and will one day make a team very happy with his skill set, but Vick is the better option for Week One. Jackson believes Kelly will keep the players honest and competing down to the final weeks, but Vick is the better choice.

Kelly will likely run a similar style offense that was in place at Oregon. He is known for his quick plays and read-option offense, a system that Vick fits perfectly in. Jackson believes Kelly will take advantage of that. Andy Reid's offense limited Vick's mobility, whereas Kelly runs a system that will let the quarterback shine.

"They tried to switch his playing skills up a little bit, try to sit back and just be a pocket passer," Jackson said. "Michael Vick is a quarterback that uses his legs first and foremost. When things break down, that's what he's got to depend on. He can't sit back there and just take hits...To try to get a Michael Vick to stay in the pocket when things shut down, that's hard to do."

Jackson has said he would like Kelly to establish a depth chart as early as possible so the team can really begin to prepare for the upcoming season. Vick has echoed that statement, but Kelly is in no rush to name his starting offense this early. Vick may be the better fit in the offense, but Kelly will not admit until the last possible minute.
