Manchester City Transfer News: City Agree Deal for Stevan Jovetic as Alvaro Negredo Closes In On Move After Completing Medical

Manchester City continue to flex their muscles in the transfer market, after it was confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Fiorentina over the sale of forward Stevan Jovetic, a day after a similar deal was put in place for Alvaro Negredo of Sevilla.

Manuel Pellegrini has already completed the signings of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho and the side from Manchester is set to be further strengthened following the arrivals of Jovetic - a former target for Arsenal and Chelsea - and Negredo.

"An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent sale of the player Stevan Jovetic," Fiorentina said in a statement on their official Twitter account.

Negredo is expected to officially complete his move to City having completed his medical Thursday evening, in a deal thought to be around £21.5 million ($32.7 million), rising to a possible £24.5 million ($37.3 million), according to the Spanish club, although City say the fee is considerably lower.

"He's a good striker, a typical No.9," City defender Pablo Zabaleta said about the new signing. "I'd say he is similar to Edin Dzeko. He's a tall player who works very well inside the box or drops deep to receive the ball when he has to.

"He's scored many goals every season in Spain. He did well at Almeria and Sevilla. I'm sure the manager has 100 percent confidence about him and I would expect him to do well."

Zabaleta also took time to bid farewell to fellow Argentine Carlos Tevez, who signed for Juventus recently.

"We wish Carlos all the best for his future," he added. "He went to a great club in Juventus -- one of the best in Europe. He's been in England for seven years and he's done well everywhere he's been and he did really well for City.

"We'll miss having him as a teammate but it's part of football that players move on. But Sergio (Aguero) is still here so we will be fine."
