Aaron Rodgers Todd Sutton Tweets: Ryan Braun Defense With Salary Shows Why Athletes, Rumors And Twitter Are Dangerous Combination (Commentary)

Aaron Rodgers came to the defense of his friend Ryan Braun over a year ago when he was first suspended for 50 games then exonerated after winning an appeal, but now something the Green Bay Packers quarterback said long ago is coming back to bite him after the Brewers star was suspended for 65 games.

Back in February 2012 after Braun's ban was overturned, Rodgers took to Twitter to dish out blame on ESPN and the MLB for disparaging Braun's reputation and now one Tweet that he wrote is getting more attention than others, as he got into it with Yahoo Sports writer Todd Sutton about Braun. When he was asked if he really believed that Braun didn't use PEDs, Rodgers responded with another line about putting "next year's salary on it" and while that salary is already paid, clearly Sutton won the bet.

The move shows why Twitter can be a double edged sword for athletes, as this was written over a year ago but still can be relevant now after new information came out. The baseball world was stunned to hear about Braun's suspension and now his whole legacy and reputation will be tarnished forever, while the Brewers may not recover. Rodgers had a signing bonus and a $8.5 million salary last season, but clearly that was already paid to him and even still, Sutton gets the last laugh.

Braun cut a deal with baseball to go for 65 games and now he will love over $3 million in salary, which is small potatoes compared to Rodgers' salary and the contract he previously signed with the Brewers. Braun was the 2011 MVP in the NL and this season he was hitting .298 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs while dealing with injuries. Braun was connected to the Biogenesis clinic and now Alex Rodriguez and other players could also be suspended as well.
