The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets hook up for the final game of their four-game series. The Braves will be looking to close out with a rare series win on the road. Meanwhile, the Mets will consider it a victory if they can split the series with the first place rivals. Check out MLB.TV's live stream of this game available online.
The pitching matchup will be a rematch of young pitchers, tapping into the potential both teams have in their farm system. Alex Wood will make his second start of the year against these same Mets, while phenom Zack Wheeler will get another chance to beat the Braves.
Back on June 18, Wood and Wheeler faced off. It was Wheeler's first career MLB game as the Mets wisely chose to start the Georgia native in Atlanta. He pitched six innings of scoreless baseball earning his first ever win as a pro. Wood pitched decently that day, but his three innings of one-run ball were not enough to get him a victory.
The Braves will look to win three out of four after taking the series opener and crushing the Mets in Wednesday's game. They used three home runs to beat the Mets 8-2 as Evan Gattis, Dan Uggla and Andrelton Simmons took Mets' pitching deep.
Though it was a lopsided victory, the Braves took a loss after Tim Hudson, who was pitching scoreless baseball, suffered a fracture in his right ankle. While covering first base as the Mets were in a middle of a rally, Eric Young Jr. stepped on Hudson's right leg. Hudson was unable to get on his feet and was carried out on a stretcher.
The once healthy and deep Braves' starting rotation is now short. Brandon Beachy is expected to make his return soon and Paul Maholm should be back quickly from this disabled list stint.
