Free agent outfielder Johnny Damon has signed with the Cleveland Indians. The 17-year veteran told ESPN that terms of a contract have been finalized.
During his prime, Damon was one of the most successful centerfielders in the game. He has appeared in two All-Star games and has won two World Series with two different teams, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
Damon is a career 0.286 hitter and hit 0.261 with 16 home runs and 73 RBIs last year with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Still a serviceable outfielder, designated hitter, and pinch hitter, Damon is only 277 hits shy of 3,000 career hits.
