The New York Giants are looking to rebound after missing the playoffs last season as defending Super Bowl champions and as training camp is underway the team is dealing with a couple of issues, including with Dan Connor and Will Hill as well as the injury to Jason Pierre-Paul.
Pierre-Paul is recovering from back surgery and Connor comes to camp after dealing with an arrest for a switchblade at the airport. Connor said to ESPN that it was in the bag by accident and that he hadn't seen it in over a year and it happened as he was one hi way to a wedding. Connor said he understands that he is responsible and brought bad publicity on the team but that the knife being in the bag was a mistake.
Will Hill spoke about being suspended for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse and said that the issues were from using marijuana. "It's definitely disappointing," Hill said on Sunday before Giants practice. "By us being professional athletes, you would think people who would have your back would have your back. But coming out and growing up in this environment here, I had a lot of stress from my environments and [marijuana was] the only way I knew how to cope with it until I got with the team and they put me in some clinics and stuff and helped me out."
"They don't want the bad publicity and I don't want it on myself," Connor said. "Being a new guy here, I don't want to put a scar or have a bad mark on a city that doesn't even know me that well. It's just unfortunate."
"But at the same time, it's my fault," he added. "And I have to prove to everybody that I'm not that type of guy, a guy to get in trouble. It was the first time I've been arrested, so pretty embarrassing for me."
