Atlanta Braves Trade Rumors: Texas Rangers Ask About Brian McCann, Team Obviously Says No As Jake Peavy An Option With Trading Deadline Wednesday?

The Atlanta Braves are currently in first place in the National League East and leading by a wide margin and with 60 wins on the season the team looks like a lock for the playoffs and despite that, with the deadline closing in and catcher being a need, the Texas Rangers called about the availability of Brian McCann.

According to Hardball Talk, the Rangers called to inquire about McCann and while the team has some depth at the position, they said no to Texas about a possible trade. Ken Rosenthal Reported that sources said that Texas wanted to look for some offensive help and that is what spurred the call and now the team may look at names like Alex Rios or Kendrys Morales to add some power to the lineup. McCann is a free agent his fall and that may have been one reason why the Rangers asked about a trade and they could go after him when he hits the market.

The Braves already made some moves to help the bullpen after bringing over Scott Downs from the Angels for Cory Rasmus and the team needs some depth there after losing Eric O'Flaherty and Jonny Venters with injuries. Texas already has A.J. Pierzynski, but they are hoping for more offense in the lineup and Giancarlo Stanton has been a target as well. McCann is batting .284 with a .884 OPS this season. Tim Hudson suffered an awful injury to his ankle, so starting pitching with a name lie Jake Peavy could be in the cards.
