San Francisco Giants Brian Wilson may see his season come to an end after throwing 56 pitches and earning one save. The Giants closer announced that he will partake in a season-ending surgery in order to recover his right elbow, according to manager Bruce Bochy.
The bad news surprised the Giants pitching staff and will apparently affect the overall performance of the team this season.
During the ninth inning in Thursday's game, Wilson appeared hurt and was concealing his pain despite finishing his second game of the season with a save.
On Friday Bochy posted on the team's website that "[Wilson] took an MRI, and it shows structural damage with his elbow."
Acknowledging the importance of Wilson to the team, the Giants are going to ask for second opinions on his MRI results.
Wilson remained optimistic saying he looks to overcome the situation and get better from the experience.
"By no stretch of the imagination is my journey over with here," said Wilson. "This is just a mild bump in my road. This is an opportunity for me to get a better arm.
Wilson faced similar situations before as he had Tommy John surgery during his college playing days with LSU in 2003.
