Shark Week is finally here as Discovery began their coverage of the most feared animals of the sea. Along with the promotion of the week-long programming provided by Discovery, I noticed the wide range of fans following this annual event. They showed support by following the countdown provided on the Shark Week website and they expressed their excitement by purchasing and wearing their gear.
That's right, you can wear Shark Week in anything from the ironic bathing suit to high heel shoes. The latter being the most impressive out of the bunch, a good friend of mine, Cindy Mancebo, wore shoes designed by Taylor Says. What's so special about these shoes? See for yourself.
For the true fanatics, you can get a pair of these for $199. Men, these only come in heels. What's so special about these shoes aside from the obvious shark detail in the front? They have interesting details at the bottom of the shoe, but don't take my word for it. "They are so comfortable. It's hard to find both comfort and design in a shoe without compromise," said Mancebo who is a fashion blogger, event coordinator and designer out of New York City. You can follow her on Instagram @A_Chic_Tale and see her strutting her heels.
Then another friend, Gabriela Espinosa, also from NYC, pointed out that these shoes weren't the only fashion pieces out there. There is also a creative one-piece swimsuit for females with a shark bite ripped into the fabric, exposing the belly button and oblique. Of course, we hope this bite remains as a part of the design. After seeing this, curiosity led me to the Discovery store and there, fans can buy anything from a t-shirt to an iPhone cover.
I had heard of Shark Week before, but 2013 is the year where I will sit and watch the shows to see what the hype is all about. If they can get women to wear shoes with sharks on them, then something must be up.
