The NFL season is getting very close and with training camps getting intense it means it's time for the preseason, everyone's favorite time of the year and with reserves and other players looking to prove their worth, the first week of "real" games is the best way to start separating who belongs on the team and who doesn't and the preseason kicked off with the Cowboys and Dolphins in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game on Sunday night.
Dallas defeated the Dolphins despite Tony Romo and a number of other stars no playing and Devonte Holloman's 75-yard interception return was the highlight of the 24-20 victory from Canton. The Cowboys looked much better than the Dolphins for most of the game and two players connected to the franchises in former offensive lineman, Larry Allen, and former coach, Bill Parcells, were inducted over the weekend.
With Romo out while recovering from removing a cyst this offseason, the team focused on the running game and gave Phillip Tanner his chances and he came through with 59 yards and a score and the team finished with 170 yards overall rushing. Parcells and Allen were inducted with Cris Carter, Jonathan Ogden, Warren Sapp, Curley Culp and Dave Robinson and after the two teams exchanged field goals in the early part of the game, things opened up later as Miami got back into it.
That was just the start of Week 1 of the preseason and things will continue on Thursday with a number of games, including Baltimore at Tampa Bay at 7:30 PM as the first game of the night. Some of the games will be on ESPN and NFL Network and others will be on FOX depending on what teams are playing and this is the first real set of games until September 5 when the true season begins. Streaming will be on corresponding stations, including Watch ESPN and the Fox Sports streaming website.
