The San Francisco has locked up another young homegrown pitcher to a long-term extension.  Two weeks after signing Matt Cain to the richest deal for a right-hander in MLB history, the Giants have signed Madison Bumgarner to a 5-year $35 million deal. 

The deal for the left-handed pitcher is more modest than Cain's, primarily due to Bumgarner's service time and four arbitration-eligible years remaining.  The deal means that Bumgarner avoids arbitration and will be signed for his first free-agent eligible year. 

In addition, the Giants have a team option for an additional two years after the initial five year deal completes.

The 22-year old starting pitcher has a 3.12 career ERA and a 21-20 record in over three seasons with the Giants. 

During the Giants' 2010 World Series playoff run, Bumgarner had superb pitching performances as the eventual champion's fourth started.  Bumgarner's highlights included a 3-2 series clinching win over the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS and eight shut-out innings in a Game 4 win over the Texas Rangers in the World Series.
