The Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals face off at 8 p.m. ET, Friday evening as the two teams play their first NFL Preseason games of the year. Unfortunately, if you want to watch the game, the online live stream appears to be the easiest way to see the action.
The Packers are looking for a running back. That's probably their main concern entering the 2013 season on offense. Their lack of balance puts too much pressure on their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Not that he folds under the pressure, but the Packers' would be twice as dangerous if they have a running back who can effectively run the ball. In 2012, the Packers were only dangerous via the pass.
The roster shows how serious they are about getting runner as the team has invited seven running backs to the preseason, four of which have no prior experience in the NFL. Alex Green and James Starks are back for another season with the Packers. Last season, combined they totaled 719 rushing yards and just one touchdown on the ground, which is horrible. Once the Packers can add a running game, they will be true trouble in the league.
For the Cardinals, well, where do you start? Check out this domino effect. They have four quarterbacks, whom they couldn't keep healthy, but then again, who would want to quarterback for a team that allowed 58 sacks? They had no offensive line, their quarterbacks struggled and eventually their receivers' stats suffered as well. With no running game, the Cardinals couldn't hide that their passing game was horrible.
Add this all up and you have a terrible offensive team, filled with talent, but their defense could only do so much. Larry Fitzgerald was held under 1,000 receiving yards in the season for the first time since 2006.
So where did the Cardinals start their reconstructing? They got Carson Palmer via trade over the offseason, who is expected to be the starting quarterback once the season begins. They added the former Pittsburgh Steeler, Rashard Mendenhall to their running back squad. Suddenly, the Cardinals have three established offensive players who put points up on the board.
