Ryan Giggs remains confident Manchester United have the quality in their squad to compete for the English Premier League title, despite not making any major signings so far, while Nemanja Vidic has admitted questions will continue to be asked over the side's capabilities for the new season under new manager David Moyes.
United have so far not been able to bring in a big-name signing so far in the summer transfer window, although the likes of Luka Modric, Yohan Cabaye and Marouane Fellaini are being linked with moves.
Giggs acknowledged signing new players has been a problem this summer, but believes United still have a quality squad good enough to battle for honors next season.
"The quality is in the squad," Giggs said. "We showed that last year. Now we have to show it again.
"It has been a slow transfer window. Manchester City did their business early on but, other than that, there has not been a lot of movement so it could be a hectic last two weeks.
"We will just have to wait and see how it goes but we are quite happy with the players in our dressing room.
"We won the league with those players so we are looking forward to the start of the season.
"If we sign someone -- great. If not we will just get on with it."
United have been underwhelming this preseason, but gave the fans some cheer following a 2-0 win over Wigan in the Community Shield on Sunday. Club captain Vidic understands doubts will continue to linger over the side's ability to cope without the great Sir Alex Ferguson.
"People are questioning everyone," the central defender said. "People are asking whether we can win the trophy again. Can we still be champions?
"That is not just about the manager, it is the players as well. Can the players perform the same way as they did before?
"We are trying hard to show what we can do. We have a good work ethic to start with and everyone wants to put themselves back into contention.
"Most importantly, I see the hunger.
"I am pleased with that because we will definitely need it if we are going to achieve what we want this season."
