The New York Mets have not had much to cheer about this season, but one thing that has remained a constant is the pitching of Matt Harvey and now that the young star has compiled some Cy Young worthy stats, he may get shut down.
According to Hardball Talk, Harvey may be shut down before the end of the season due to an innings limit meant to keep his young arm fresh for the future. The Nationals did a similar thing with Stephen Strasburg and the Mariners and other teams have done that in the past as well to keep young stars healthy. The team will set the limit around 200 innings, MLB.com reports and right now he is at 159.2 innings through 23 starts and has 10 starts left if he keeps pitching at this rate.
Last year he pitched just under 170 innings and this season he is 9-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 178 strikeouts, clearly on pace to get himself in the Cy Young race.
