Manchester United Transfer News: Steven Gerrard Refuses to Reveal if Wayne Rooney Will Stay or Leave for Chelsea

England captain Steven Gerrard revealed he has spoken to Wayne Rooney about his future, but refused to reveal whether the Manchester United forward would stay at Old Trafford or not.

Gerrard and Rooney are part of the England squad preparing to take on Scotland in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday.

Rooney has taken full part in England's training session so far, despite missing almost the entire preseason with Manchester United.

Gerrard admitted he had had a conversation with Rooney over the current situation surrounding his future, with Chelsea looking to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge, but chose not to reveal the details.

"It wouldn't be fair on Wayne for me to talk about that conversation but of course I am close to him," Gerrard said.

"But for me it is all about how Wayne Rooney is feeling for tomorrow's (Wednesday's) game and I am sure he will sort the other stuff out."

Gerrard also admitted while Rooney was not exactly match fit, having taken part in just one preseason friendly for United, he was impressed with the way the 27-year-old has performed during training.

"He is certainly not match fit," Gerrard added. "But it is the same old Wayne Rooney in training, he looks good, he is scoring goals.

"He is certainly ready to play, he needs these minutes for his confidence and I am sure he will be itching to start."

England teammate Jack Wilshere concurred with Gerrard's assessment on Rooney. "He's the same Wayne Rooney," Wilshere said. "Half an hour before training he's out there playing jokes on everyone. He's happy in himself and he's performing in training.

"It looks like he hasn't been injured at all. He's been firing the goals in and he looks sharp. I'm sure he'll be looking to get some minutes on the pitch."
